Our Final Adventure

Ever since the weather warmed up, Gage had been begging Peter to take him on a ride in the boat.  I didn't realize he had never been on a boat before!  The only problem was Gage was having family visits on the weekend and the boat needed to be cleaned before we could take it on the water, not to mention just going out on a weeknight would have been a tease.  We finally were able to take him out on his last day with us.  We picked up Peter early from work and headed out to Pottawatomie State Lake No. 2 outside of Manhattan for some boating.

The trip was pretty uneventful with the exception of when I took the oars, Peter got busy fishing, and the kids got more adventurous looking over the side of the boat.  I peeked behind me and saw Graci leaning over quite a bit.  Next thing I knew I heard her squeal, looked over my shoulder, and saw only her foot as the rest of her body had plunked in the water.  She bobbed right up like a little cork, but boy did she get a surprise!  Gage was a little jealous I think.  He didn't understand that it wasn't a swimming lake.

We headed back to shore so I could rest my pregnant behind and set up dinner while everyone else went back out to do some exploring on the other side of the lake.  I fixed everyone sandwiches and we even had soda.  (I know, you are shocked! It was a special occasion :))  When Peter and the kids returned, Peter taught Gage how to catch crawdads.  Needless to say, he didn't eat much of his dinner.  That kept him busy for the final hour of our time together.  We headed out and met his parents, loaded up their car with his belongings, and went home exhausted and a little empty, but glad for the time we had together.
