Last Wednesday Peter and the girls and I returned home from a 10 day visit to Arizona (posts to come shortly). That Friday Peter and I went to Manhattan to check out some properties to purchase. The day before we left Arizona we had contacted a realtor we knew to help us find a home. The next day she let us know about this property in particular that was about to go on the market and said she would try to get us in early for a showing when we came out. This home was the last one on our "tour" and was by far the best of any homes we saw that day. If we hadn't been able to get this home, I would have gone looking again, but luckily everything played out in our favor (with much negotiation) and we were able to seal the deal to get this home. We are feeling so very to have found this home where I hope we can stay indefinately.
The house was built in 1860 (approximately) and sits on 2 acres just south of Wamego, Kansas on Highway 99. It is surrounded by crops on all sides and is close to the river.
This was a requirement I was happy to find filled in this house: a kitchen sink with a window that also happens to look out to the backyard. I am tired of staring at a wall while I do dishes.
This is probably the only dining space we will use and it is in the same space as the kitchen. Plus, I don't have to go around a counter or into another room to bring food to the table.
The laundry room/wet room is between the kitchen and backyard. I think I will be much more productive in this department since I will not have to travel all the way to the basement.
This room will be a music room. I think the piano will fit...
I was worried I would have to sell my abnormally large living room furniture. Not anymore!
This house may be old, but there is not a creak in it, including the stairs. They are solid.
I really like the colors the owner chose. I am so grateful I will not have to piant.
I think it would be fun to have a little bookshelf and chair by the window in the hall for Piper and Graci to read their books.

THE bathroom. That's right. Only one bath right now and it's on the main level, but we will take it.
The barn is rather huge. I'm not sure what we will put in there, but it would make a fun place in the summer!
The playset is not staying :( But Peter is excited to build one. The tree has a nice limb for a swing, which is all Piper wants anyway.
